Fireplace TV Mounting in Toronto and the GTA

The fireplace wall is usually the natural focal point of a living room, which is why so many households want the TV there. It is also the placement that generates the most questions: will the heat damage the screen, will the angle hurt my neck, and can the wires still be hidden if the wall is stone or tile?

All three concerns are manageable with the right assessment. We start by identifying the fireplace type. Modern electric and linear fireplaces vent very little heat upward and are generally safe for a TV above the unit. Gas fireplaces vary widely by model, and older wood-burning units push significant heat and soot up the face of the chimney breast, which changes what we recommend.

Then we look at geometry. If the screen ends up too high, the viewing experience suffers no matter how good the installation looks. A tilting bracket, a pull-down mount, or simply lowering the screen where the mantel allows can bring the picture back into a comfortable range.

Pull-down mounts deserve a special mention. These brackets let the TV sit high and flush when not in use, then swing down and forward to near eye level for viewing. They are heavier and require solid anchoring, so the wall behind matters, but on a tall stone chimney breast they solve the height problem completely.

If the wall is masonry and in-wall routing is not practical, we install a slim surface raceway that follows the line of the stone or runs behind the mantel where it is barely visible, and it can be painted to match. We will always tell you honestly what is possible on your specific wall before work begins.

Fireplace installs pair naturally with wire concealment, soundbar mounting, and electric fireplace installation. Ask about combining them in a single visit.

Fireplace TV Mounting FAQs

Is it safe to mount a TV above a fireplace?
Will the TV be too high above the fireplace?

It can be, which is why the mount choice matters. A tilting bracket angles the screen downward, and a pull-down mount lowers it toward eye level for viewing. Where the mantel allows, we also position the screen as low as the surround permits.

Can you hide wires on a stone fireplace?

Often, yes. If there is a chase or drywall section beside the firebox we route cables into a recessed plate. On solid stone we use a slim paintable raceway placed along a mortar line or behind the mantel so it is barely visible.

Do you install on brick chimney breasts?

Yes. Brick and block are anchored with hammer-drilled masonry fixings sized for the display weight. This is typically a stronger installation than drywall, and we clean all masonry dust before leaving.

Can you mount above a wood-burning fireplace?

It depends on the unit. Wood-burning fireplaces can push significant heat and soot up the face. We measure the surface temperature and clearance and will suggest a higher-clearance placement or an alternative wall if conditions are not suitable.
